Ofsted Parent View

Views of Parents

As a school, we are very proud of the involvement parents have in school life. Through out the year we offer a range of opportunities for parents to come and visit the school, for example, parent workshops, open events and parents evenings. Each year we also ask parents to complete a questionnaire to give feedback about the school. The information gathered allows us to gather the thoughts of parents and carers.

Annual Parental Questionnaire

In the summer term we gather the views of parents and put them together. This is valuable information from parents about the school. The attached documents give a summary of the outcomes the past 4 years.

Reception Workshops – Understanding Your Child

Thank you for taking the time to come to the workshops. The feedback is really positive and, as a result, there are three workshops offering the ten week course running.

Reception Workshops – Phonics

What is phonics?

Phonics consists of teaching the skills of segmenting and blending, the alphabetic code and an understanding of how this is used in reading and spelling. Simply put, it is hearing the sounds in a word and writing them down to spell it correctly. When reading, it is sounding out a word and sticking the sounds back together to read the whole word.

When children start in Reception each class do a workshop where the child and parent learn phonics alongside one another. These documents give the feedback from each class.

Y2 Workshops – Spelling & Grammar

As the children move into year two, they are starting to take a closer look at spelling and how they can apply their phonics knowledge to help them to spell. The children are also learning all types of grammar, for example, they are learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives. This workshop gives an introduction to parents about how spelling is taught and the different aspects of grammar that children need to learn.
